Description

William Kerr, 1894. 3-storey and attic, 4-bay Edwardian Freestyle tenement with modern shopfronts at ground floor. Polished red ashlar. Outer bays slightly bowed; central bays slightly bowed at band course dividing 1st and 2nd floors; moulded cill and eaves courses; cornice. Pilasters frame windows to outer bowed bays at 1st and 2nd floors; banded rustication frames 2nd floor windows rising above attic windows to form finialled gables; tripartite keystoned attic lunettes within.

NE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: off-centre square-headed close (Climie's Close) at ground; flanking shopfronts; modern single glazed door to shop to outer right, window to left; modern glazed door to shop to outer left, letterbox fanlight, shop window to right. Tripartite windows flank 2 single central windows at 1st and 2nd floors; tripartite lunettes flank 2 central dormers at attic.

Predominantly 2-pane upper sashes to timber sash and case windows. Grey slate mansard roof; coped stacks; circular cans.

INTERIORS: not seen 1998.

Statement of Interest

B Group with Nos 225-231 (Odd Nos), 233 and 235, and 237-241 (Odd Nos) High Street (see separate list descriptions). Former Sun Inn Bar, also acted as a departure point for local carriers with regular services to Dalrymple, Kirkmichael, Kirkoswald, Ochiltree and Straiton.
