Description

Later 19th century. 2-storey, 5-bay pair of villas. Painted ashlar (channelled at ground floor). 1st floor cill course; eaves course; cornice; raised quoins at 1st floor; aprons and architraved surrounds to 1st floor windows.

S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: fluted, columnar entrance porches to 2nd and 4th bays; timber doors; letterbox fanlights; single windows aligned above at 1st floor. Central bipartite window at ground floor (blind window at 1st floor). Bipartite window at ground floor; single window at 1st floor to outer left; canted bay at ground and 1st floor to right. Timber door to coped wall to outer right.

Plate glass and 6-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; stone skews; gablehead and wallhead stacks; circular cans.

INTERIORS: not seen 1998.

BOUNDARY WALL: low coped boundary wall partly enclosing site.

Statement of Interest

Miller Place (as it was originally named, after Provost Hugh Miller) was laid out as a turnpike road in 1846, but houses were not erected until the 1850s/1860s.
