1868; alterations JA Morris, 1897 and 1900. 2-storey, 3-bay detached asymmetrical-plan mansion house on corner site with Jacobean detailing. Coursed sandstone. Base course; modillion eaves course with rope-moulding to corbel table; crenellated parapet (to NW elevation); ground floor stepped string course (to NE elevation); crowstepped gables; ball finials atop.
NW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: advanced, single storey, canted central entrance porch; Gibbs surround to doorpiece to re-entrant angle to left; 2-leaf timber door; oval mouldings flank cross above; ball finials at angles to cornice; 2-light transomed and mullioned arched windows to canted sides to right; balustraded parapet; obelisk finials to angles; single window at 1st floor; plaque to crenellated parapet. Canted bay to outer right; mullions to central face of windows at ground and 1st floor; hoodmould to 1st floor window; corbelled angles to gable; corbelled turrets with labelmoulds to blind openings flanking; finials at apex. 3-light windows at ground and 1st floor to gabled bay to left; segmental arch to stepped labelmould at ground floor; labelmould to blind arrowslit window to gable; corbelled octagonal turret to outer left.
SW (SIDE) ELEVATION: 4-bay with single storey wing to outer right. 3-light windows at ground and 1st floor to advanced gabled bay to outer left; labelmoulds to openings; blind arrowslit to gable; corbelled turret to outer left. Canted bay at ground to penultimate bay to left; mullioned window to central face; mullioned, labelmoulded window at 1st floor; corbelled turret to right. Circular-plan recessed turreted penultimate bay to right; timber door at ground floor with window above (non-aligned); single window at 1st floor. Single windows at ground and 1st floor to crowstepped gabled bay to right. Single storey advanced wing to outer right.
NE (CHAPELPARK ROAD) ELEVATION: 5-bay with single storey wing to outer left. Central circular-plan turreted entrance bay; timber door; single window above; single window at 1st floor. Blind single openings at ground and 1st floor to recessed gabled bay to outer right. 3-light windows at ground and 1st floor to penultimate gabled advanced bay to right. Single windows at ground and 1st floor to 2 bays to left. Single storey slightly advanced wing to outer left.
SE ELEVATION: not seen 1999.
Predominantly plate glass timber sash and case windows. Slate roof; corniced pitch and gablehead stacks; circular and polygonal cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.
INTERIOR: not seen 1999.
GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALL: square-plan stone gatepiers to both entrances; coped boundary wall enclosing site.
NOTES: Good example of later 19th century Scottish Baronial architecture. Notable for its fine detailing especially the rope-moulding, crenellated parapet, Gibbs doorpiece and obelisk finials.
