Statement of Interest

B Group with Nos 1-12 (Inclusive), 16-27 (Inclusive), Sheriff Court (No 14), County Buildings, Monuments to James George Smith Neill, Earl of Eglinton and Wintoun, Sir James Fergusson of Kilkerran, War Memorial, and Gatepiers, Gates and Boundary Walls. The palace-fronted square as proposed by John Robertson in 1799 was not pursued, instead individual feuars were allowed to develop the square. Noted as the Town and Country Club in the AYR AND DISTRICT DIRECTORY of 1926-27, this may account for the 3-storey height, in the predominantly 2-storey Wellington Square.
