1783. Symmetrical rectangular church roofless, with long
north and south elevations. 2 stage tower at east; low
entrance with chamfered angles projects at west. Thinly
harled red rubble, with polished ashlar dressings and
margins, belfry stage of tower in cherry pointed squared
rubble, and ashlar angle margins. Main body of church 4 bays,
south elevation 2 tall central round headed windows, 1 window
to ground and gallery in outer bays. North elevation, 3 blind
windows to ground floor, 3 gallery windows. Tower, splayed
angles to both stages round headed door on south 4 round
headed keyblocked openings in belfry, tall bellcast and
facetted slate roof. Drystone dyke surrounds graveyard, which
has late 18th, 19th and 20th century stones.
Date stone inscribed ERECTED BY GEORGE ROSS ESQ ANNO DOMNI
1783. Built at sole expense of George Ross of Cromarty for
the influx of Gaelic speaking people who came to English
speaking Cromarty to work as a result of the Highland
Clearances.
