Description

Late 18th century with 19th century alterations. 2-storey 3 +
4 bay terraced houses, now hotel with late 19th century
taller 2-storey, 3-bay annexe to right. Maxwell Arms: smooth
rendered, regular 7-bay frontage. Door in right section,
pilastered with cornice. All windows with raised painted
margins. Sash and case with plateglass glazing. Deep plain
parapet with cornice.
Slate roof, sandstone ridge, corniced axial stacks with
octagonal cans.
Annexe: taller 2-storey, 3-bay building, bull-faced granite
with polished margins and bandcourse over ground. Central
pilastered doorway with block pediment, panelled door with
fanlight. Single window over door, otherwise all bipartite.
Sash and case with plateglass glazing. Slate roofs, end
skews, end coped stacks, octagonal cans to right. Rear
elevation with harled single-storey flat roofed extension.
