Description

Earlier 19th century. 3-storey, 3-bay terraced tenement with shop at ground to High Street; 2-storey range at rear. Harled. Painted raised margins.

EAST (HIGH STREET) ELEVATION: squared pend opening (Miller's Close) with remains of 1 pal stone in right bay; modern shop front in remaining bays with door to left. Regular 12-pane timber sash and case windows to 1st and 2nd floors.

WEST ELEVATION: gabled and harled with broad brick stack, left bay fenestrated above pend.

Coped skew, intercepted by gabled facade of No 75 High Street, and brick stack to south. Grey slates, with diamond motif in centre of east pitch.

2-STOREY RANGE: early 19th century, rubble with cement pointing; adjoined at right angles to right of west elevation, with small-pane glazing pattern in sash and case windows and brick stacks; narrow splayed doorway to left of north elevation, adjacent doorway to right with timber boarded reveal. Evidence of former forestair on gabled west elevation; blocked door to right at 1st floor.

B Group with Nos 67-71, 75, 79, 81, 83 and 85, 87, 89 and 91, and 93 High Street, and No 1 Edinburgh Road.

The building was repaired circa 2014 as part of Dalkeith Townscape Heritage Initiative, including reinstatement of 12-pane timber sash and case windows.

Statutory address and listed building record updated in 2015. Formerly listed as '77-79 High Street'.
