Description

NO. 73: 18th century. 3-storey harled block, serving as
extension to no. 71 High Street. E end abuts gable of 17th
century house. Panelled door to right; parapet to small
forecourt and decorative iron railings.
17TH CENTURY HOUSE forming L-plan of 2 adjoining wings with
different ridge heights. Rendered sandstone rubble: pantiled
roof; crowsteps with curved beak skewputs. Harled gable and
brick stacks. Variety of small-pane glazing pattern.
E WING: 2-storey. Slated easing course. Pend under forestair;
door above and window to right. Ground floor to N entered
through pend, with openings blocked at rear. Wing abutted in
courtyard to N by single storey, rendered, pantiled
outbuilding, linking with no. 75 High Street. Rear elevation
with random openings and piended attic dormer.
S WING: Higher eaves with steeply pitched gable and roof
above 3-storey block; courtyard face with bowed stairblock at
centre, roof swept into main eaves. Cossarr's Wynd elevation
with random windows and 3 swept dormers, breaking eaves. E
gable with 3 windows in vertical line to N.
