Description

Kenneth F Masson, chief architect SCWS, plans 1947,
completed 1949 2-storey red brick and faience clad modern
jute spinning mill.

recessed panelled faience-clad section set in brick
surround and parapet. Ground floor windows in margins in
6 groups of 3, 2 intermediate loading doors. Continuous
large 1st floor windows divided by 7 dark tiled mullions.
3 port holes vertically arranged over door. Tall brick
parapet with faience coping set-back and stepped-up canted
angle. A 2-storey bipartite to each elevation within
faience recess. Monumental corner entrance. Deep lintel on
squat fluted columns over original double doors.
Deeply recessed window above with boldly modelled reveals.
Elevation to Morgan Street similar to that to Arbroath Road
but longer and with only 6 ground floor windows due to
slope. 11 large 1st floor windows with thicker mullions.
2 square windows at right.
Original metal-framed hopper windows.
INTERIOR: curved foyer, terrazzo floors. Reinforced
concrete framed loading area at basement by Arbroath Road.
The mill proper is single-storey, steel-framed and
