Description

David Baxter (Johnston and Baxter) 1907. 2-storey and
basement 8-bay asymmetrical with some simple Renaissance
details. Red brick with ashlar bands at ground floor and
ashlar details.
FRONT ELEVATION: arched entrance bounded by pilaster strips
in 3rd bay from left. Smaller door with lintel and cornice,
3rd bay from right, single light over. Large keystoned
thickly mullioned 2 and 3-light windows, round-headed at
ground floor, segmental headed at 1st with linking cill
course. Mutule cornice, open pediment over main entrance.
Balustraded parapet. Square section wallhead stacks. Slate
roof. Leaded window panes.
INTERIOR: Original inner and outer doors, mosaic floors.
Iron bannisters to stairs. Most rooms modestly detailed.

Statement of Interest

Rebuilt after the Seagate Conflagration of 1906 which

engulfed it and the adjacent Watson's Bond.
