Description

Circa 1863, 2-storey Scots Baronial, extended 1916 by Thoms and Wilkie. Ashlar-built.

E elevation: Corinthian-columned pedimented doorpiece, carved

tympanum, 2 windows over with steep gablets. Advanced

crow-stepped gabled bay with ground-floor canted window,

strapworked parapet, bipartite over and single attic light.

Crowstepped gablet to right.

SE turret: corbelled out at 1st floor over chamfered angle,

corbel course and steep conical roof with wrought-iron

finial.

S elevation: steep crowstepped-gabled bay with ground floor

canted window, detailing similar to E gable. Projecting

tripartite with stepped hoodmould and armorial, 2 single

windows in crowstepped gablets over. Modern dormer.

W elevation: twin crowstepped gables with ground floor

canted windows. Range to left remodelled and heightened

1916 by Thoms and Wilkie with gabletted 1st floor windows

and octagonal slate-roofed cupola.

Steep slate roofs with ashlar stacks, tops decoratively carved

except at N gable, rebuilt in rendered brick. Windows sash

and case, 2- and 4-pane glazing pattern, 12-pane to Thoms

and Wilkie section.
