2-storey, with basement in fall of ground, 3-bay coursed
rubble villa. 3-bay N elevation, centre bay advanced, Ionic
columned doorpiece obscured by additional porch with arch
over enlarged doorway, windows in side panels. 1st floor
tripartite. Flanking windows in recessed surrounds at ground
floor, 1st floor cill course. Main cornice centre blocking
course.
SE elevation 2-storey and basement, 3-bay, with 2 ground floor
oriels added by C and L Ower 1880. 2 dormers, wallhead and end
stacks. Piended slate roof. Sash and case windows, glazing
pattern altered.
Unusual bowed and decorated wrought-iron railings to SW.
Former sea wall at S.
Built for J Calman, shipbuilder. Later owned by Edward,
and then J K Caird, jute barons and benefactors.
