Description

Mid to later 19th century with later alterations and additions. 2-storey, 3-bay rectangular-planned classical house. Droved ashlar with polished ashlar dressings; harled side and rear elevations. Base course, eaves course and cornice, rusticated quoins.

S ELEVATION: deep-set panelled Edinburgh door with ornamental rectangular fanlight above; window at 1st floor above. Window to each floor of flanking bays.

N ELEVATION: full-height later addition to centre with door with rectangular fanlight above flanked to right by window at ground and 1st floor above.

Later timber windows with 6-pane upper and 2-pane casement to lower. Piended roof; tall droved ashlar coped wallhead stacks to side elevations.

INTERIOR: not seen, 1995.

BOUNDARY WALL: rubble, harled to exterior.

The house is named Wheatfield House. It is unusual in this part of Portobello which is made up principally of 1930s single storey housing.
