William Constable, 1902. 4-storey tenement with chamfered corner and shops at ground floor. Cream sandstone, ashlar front, coursed rubble to rear. Continuous dentilled cornice above shopfronts; cill course at 1st and 2nd floor, cill band course at 3rd floor; eaves cornice.
SE (LEITH WALK) ELEVATION: 7-bay including chamfered corner bay with blocking course bearing tablet to outer left. Common stair doorway to centre with panelled door and plate glass fanlight, shopfronts flanking (mostly altered). Regular fenestration with bipartite windows to 4th and 7th bay from left; 2 wallhead stacks.
SW (ORCHARDFIELD LANE) ELEVATION: 2-bay; windows to left bay; tall wallhead stack to right bay and to outer left.
NW (REAR) ELEVATION: chamfered corners; regular fenestration and central wallhead stack.
Timber sash and case windows, mostly plate glass glazing to front, some replacement windows, 4-pane windows to rear. Slate roof; 5 wallhead stacks (see above), mutual stack. Moulded eaves gutter.
INTERIOR: not seen 1993.
The developers of this site, according to the Dean of Guild, were the Victoria India Rubber Mills, presumably as a speculative, money-raising venture rather than linked to their millwork or as residential property for the millworkers.
