Description

Thomas Hamilton, 1829-32. Semi-elliptical tunnel-arched bridge through embankment carrying Johnstone Terrace. Ashlar. Moulded cornice through bridge and moulded cope to entrances. Tall ashlar obelisks flanking entrances.

Statement of Interest

Built following the 1827 Improvement Act which proposed a Western Approach road (Johnston Terrace) linking the High Street with the developing western area of the city. Joe Rock cites the influence of Peyre's Mausoleum to Frederick Prince of Wales.
