Oldrieve, Bell and Paterson, 1939. Massive 4-storey and attic 5-bay neo-Greek cubic bank containing double height banking hall within. Polished cream sandstone ashlar (stonecleaned). Base course with granite plinth; heavy dentilled cornice and solid parapet.
HANOVER STREET ELEVATION: tetrastyle Ionic portico in antis with full-height fluted columns; massive corniced door at centre flanked by grilled windows; 3 large corniced windows above surmounted by roundels. Single blank outer bays with rope-moulded and corniced doorcases at ground (blind to S).
ROSE STREET ELEVATION: 7-bay. 5 central bays with tall windows and further square windows below cornice; defined outer bays as outer portico bays above.
REAR ELEVATION: 7-bay. Window rising through 3 stories at centre with 2 windows above; otherwise regular fenestration with granite architraved door to left at ground and large window to right; 10 attic windows in parapet.
Timber sash and case and metal multi-pane windows.
INTERIOR: octagonal vestibule flanked by corner rooms leads to fine Greek cross plan banking hall with 2 more rooms in far corners; stained glass window on axis guarded by pair of giant columns; balcony at front; alabaster doorcases; 4 original suspended bronze lamps; trabeated ceiling. Now with mezzanine floor at centre.
