Description

1784-90; later shops at ground; attic storey by Robert Morham, 1880. 4-storey and basement, 7-bay classical tenement. Droved cream sandstone ashlar (paint removed 1994) with polished dressings. Long and short quoins. At centre, steps to common stair door with cavetto moulded architrave and cornice; simple pilastered and corniced built out shop to left; built out shopfront to right with mutuled cornice incorporating door to 1st floor public bar; shop with large canted centre bay flanked by doors, and decorative glazing to upper panes. Former eaves cornice above 2nd floor. Cornice and balustraded parapet with dies.

2-storey 7-bay range to lane with top-lit studio at 1st floor.

12-pane timber sash and case windows. Rendered stacks; grey slates.

INTERIOR: not seen 1995.

A Group with Nos 104-118 (even nos) Hanover Street as a significant surviving part of the original fabric of Edinburgh?s New Town, one of the most important and best preserved examples of urban planning in Britain.
