Circa 1630. Narrow 4-storey 6-bay building, apsidal-ended to N. Rubble construction (formerly harled). Windows to each face of canted N gable, those to 4th floor breaking eaves with carved segmental pediments (see Notes) with thistle finials.
12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows. Grey slates.
Although commonly known as Adam Bothwell's House, Bishop Bothwell died in 1593, and the likelihood is that the house was built for Sir William Dick of Braid, wealthy merchant and Lord Provost. The apsidal N end shows clearly on William Edgar's 1742 plan Quotations from Ovid and Horace in window pediments; central pediment reads NIHIL EST EX OMNI PARTE BEATUM, the E pediment EXITUS ACTA PROBAT.
