Circa 1811. 2-storey and raised basement, 24-bay, near symmetrical palace block of terraced houses; advanced N and S pavilions and outer bays to central pavilion; N and S linking blocks; additional 2-bay block to N. Cream sandstone ashlar, rusticated at ground; coursed rubble to sides and rear. Base course; band course; cill course and fluted aprons to 1st floor windows; cornice and blocking course; swagged wallhead panel to central pavilion, plain panels to terminal pavilions. Later, detached, Victorian shops to street.
W (NEWINGTON ROAD) ELEVATION: ADDITIONAL 2-BAY BLOCK TO N: door to outer right; panelled door; plate glass fanlight; regular fenestration. CENTRAL PAVILION: 4-bay; outer bays advanced; doorways to 2 central bays; panelled doors; plate glass fanlights; single windows above; tripartite windows to outer bays set in segmental-arched panels at 1st floor level. N PAVILION AND LINKING BLOCK: 3 bays to each house; doorways to outer right; panelled doors; plate glass fanlights; umbrella fanlight to No 5; regular fenestration. S PAVILION AND LINKING BLOCK:
3 bays to each house; doorways to outer left; panelled doors; plate glass fanlights; regular fenestration.
S (SALISBURY ROAD) ELEVATION: shop at ground; single windows to 1st floor to left and right of centre; rendered wallhead stack.
Predominantly plate glass, timber, sash and case windows; some 12-pane. Grey slate pitched roof; coped ridge stacks; moulded cans.
