Description

Mid 19th century. 2-storey, irregular-plan villa with Jacobean details. oursed stugged cream sandstone with polished dressings. Base course; chamfered reveals.

W ENTRANCE elevation: 3-bay with left bay gabled and advanced. Enclosed ashlar porch in re-entrant angle at centre; architraved basket-arched doorway with single lights flanking; parapet with decorative carved pediment; boarded door with decorative iron hinges; single light to right return; single window at 1st floor breaking eaves in pediment with thistle final. Advanced gabled bay to outer left; 2 single windows at ground; carved consoles to stone balcony with cast-iron balustrade above; 2 tall pilastered windows (now French windows with etched glass upper panels) at 1st floor; carved strapwork pediments; hoodmoulded arrowslit window in gablehead. Single windows in bay to outer right; 1st floor window breaking eaves in pediment with stylized rose finial. Small-pane sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; shouldered and corniced gablehead stacks to S; corbelled polygonal gablehead stack to W; moulded octagonal cans; moulded coping; block skewputts; some original rainwater goods, including hopper and bracket.

INTERIOR: not seen 1991.

GATEPIERS and BOUNDARY WALLS: corniced ashlar gatepiers to N and S; low coped boundary wall to street (replacement gatepier to driveway); high coped rubble mutual walls.
