Description

Hippolyte Jean Blanc, 1880. 4-storey, 2-bay Scottish 17th century tenement, forming part of terrace. Squared and snecked sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. Base course; string course above 1st floor; cornice above 2nd floor; chamfered reveals.

W ENTRANCE elevation: roll-moulded doorway to outer left; deep-set panelled door; plate glass fanlight. Single window at ground in bay flanking door to right; bipartite windows above; stylized pediment to 3rd floor window. Gabled advanced bay to outer right with tripartite windows to each floor; blank heraldic tablet set in square surround at crowstepped gablehead. Plate glass sash and case windows; replacements at ground. Grey slate roof; rendered and coped mutual stacks; crowstepped gable adjoining tenement to N; beak skewputts.

INTERIORS: not seen 1991.

Low boundary wall to street.

Statement of Interest

Designed with Nos 21 and 25 Marchmont Road for the developers, Galloway and Mackintosh. The Dean of Guild plans differ in a number of respects from the tenements as built.
