Description

Circa 1847. Single storey asymmetrical villa with later
additions. Rubble with finely tooled dressings. 3-bay E
elevation with centre pedimented portico borne on 2 square
pillars, and 2 pilasters with anthemion decorated capitals.
To S (garden) elevation centre round-headed niche flanked
by canted bays: small bowed wing with balustrade to W.
Panelled aprons to some windows; deep eaves courses;
extensive additions to rear.
Former gighouse and stable now converted to garage use;
rubble with ashlar dressings; harled to rear (street
elevation).
Pair square monolith gatepiers with pyramidal caps (much
worn).
Rubble garden walls with stone copes; dressed stone
terracing and flights of steps to riverside garden.

Statement of Interest

In yard at Hythe Hill 2 hexagonal stone receptacles one

dated 1728 with initials IF CA and other dated 1792. Said to

have come from a church. House built for Hugh Maclean of

Westfield (Spynie Parish). Appears illustrated on T S

Hutchon's 1855 map of Elgin.
