Dated 1634; remodelled by Dr Mackay after 1859.
Rubble built circular tower of 2 stages with small square
cap house corbelled out at 3rd stage. Roll moulded and
chamfered architraves to doorway in tower; moulded
string course between ground and 1st floor; crowstepped
cap house with small iron cross at apex. Datestone inset
by 1st floor window, and small shaped pediment with date
and initials at wallhead.
Tower now attached to 3-storey remodelled asymmetrical
house; Scots Baronial; modern shop front projecting at
ground floor with cast iron balustraded above. Upper
recessed facade of stugged snecked rubble with polished
ashlar dressings; 2-storey bowed window, mullioned and
transomed with cable moulding decorated with animals'
heads above each window, half conical roof; plate glass
glazing. Turret in re-entrant angle with conical, fish
scaled slates; crowsteps; single corniced end stack;
slate roof.
Modern extensions to rear.
Datestone and pediment bear arms of Leslie and Abernethy,
initials A.L. and I.B. for Andrew Leslie and Jean Bonyman
his wife. The tower is only surviving portion of house built
by Andrew Leslie of Glen of Rothes, merchant and magistrate
of Elgin. Iron cross erected by Isaac Forsyth before 1851
to replace earlier one.
