James Maclaren 1853. Tudor, asymmetrical composition,
single-storey schoolroom with porch and bellcote,
single-storey and attic L-plan school-house, mullioned and
transomed windows. Later additions to rear in simplified
neo-Tudor.
A good example of early Victorian school design. Of the two
other early Forfar district schools the East townend by
George Milne of Arbroath (plain Italian 1844) survives; the
west also by Milne (1843) has been demolished.
