Description

William Robertson, 1823. Remodelled 1881. Restored 1971-73.
Classical facade with central Gibbsian steeple. Polished
ashlar with coursed rubble side elevation. Single storey with
5-bay facade to High Street (N); central advanced and
pedimented 3 bays with central door and flanking windows set
in round-arched panels, approached by shallow flight of
steps. Multi-pane glazing. Frieze, cornice, central pediment
and low parapet to outer bays. Central steeple with square
plinth, clock stage with angle pilasters, octagonal stage
above with louvred openings, slender facetted spire and
weather vane.
Pair early 19th century fluted stone piers on square bases
and with flat capitals supporting draped urns. Pair of cast-
iron gates. Low stone wall with cast-iron spearhead railings.

Statement of Interest

Endowed by Jonathan Anderson of Glasgow for education of

children from Forres, Rafford and Kinloss. 1926 School facing

to South Street not included.

Gatepiers probably re-used from elsewhere.
