Alexander Thomson, architect; 1865. Grecian terrace of tenements with typical Thomson detailing. 2 storeys, attics and basement with 3 storey advanced terminal pavilions. Flank to 18 Great George Street also 3 storeys. Polished ashlar, droved at basement, partly stonecleaned. Steps oversailing basements to paired pillar porches; capitals and frieze with incised Greek key decoration. Windows, with aprons, recessed from wall plane. At 1st floor windows linked by double band course one of incised detail and the other with discs, latter raised and lugged over windows. Anthemions in recess between windows. Sash windows, plate glass glazing. Band courses of disc moulding and Greek key between floors. Ramped 3-bay 3-storey pedimented pavilions with crowning acroteria. All ground floor openings with pilastered reveals and flanked by pilasters all with incised capitals. At 1st floor, pilastrade fronting 5 tall deeply recessed windows; paired pilasters at ends. Pilasters support entablature with anthemion and palmette frieze. 2nd floor follows similar pattern but smaller scale with dwarf pilasters and plain entablature. Band of Greek key decoration between ground and 1st floors. Eaves cornice; simple pilastered and pedimented dormers (some later alterations). Axial and wallhead stacks; some lotus- shaped flues. Leaded roof around dormers other slate roofs.
Flank to 18 Great George Street advanced pedimented 2- storey bay window at right. Tripartite windows with pilaster mullions and reveals (at ground floor); paired end pilasters at 1st floor. Frieze of anthemion and palmettes continues with that at pavilions. 2nd floor, 3 small pilastered attic windows. Steps over basement, with scrolled stone parapet; doorpiece with pilastered reveals and recesses. Fanlight flanked by dwarf pilasters. Above, single 1st floor window in ramped and lugged architrave with disc moulding. Band of Greek key decoration between ground and 1st floors. Paired squat ashlar gatepiers to Oakfield Avenue. Rear elevation, droved ashlar, plain and regular.
Interior: good cast-iron balusters to stairs, plaster cornice and ceiling rose work remain.
