78-104 Dowanhill Street 3 storeys and basement, attics with
dormers at Nos 84-86. Nos 38-40 Highburgh Road, 4 storeys
with basement at rear. Polished red sandstone, stugged at
basement.
Steps oversailing basement to doorpieces with stylized
pilasters. Double leaf panelled doors; vestibule doors with
leaded glass panel and fanlight. Nos 78-104 alternating full
height 5-light bow windows with bi/tripartite windows; Rhythm
varied at Nos 92-98 and Nos 38-40 Highburgh Road. All windows
with margins plate glass lower sashes, most upper sashes
small-pane or leaded glazing. Moulded band course over each
upper floor, continuous around bow windows. Modillion cornice
at eaves. Axial stacks, some octagonal cans. Slate roofs,
conical over bows with tile cresting and finials. Nos 84-86
Dowanhill Street: high mansard roof with bow dormers over bow
windows and bipartite piended dormers. Flank to No 80;
stugged ashlar. Advanced 3-storey central bay with bipartite
windows facing street - steps to pilastered doorway, good
leaded and coloured glass to door and fanlight.
Rear and flank to No 38, stugged ashlar.
Low coped ashlar walls to gardens and steps; latter
supporting cast-iron railings.
