Description

Circa 1872. Astylar terrace of 2-bay houses, stepped down slope, mainly in pairs. 3 storeys over basement; polished ashlar some painted or stonecleaned; No 2 roughcast.

Steps oversailing basement to Corinthian pilaster doorpieces with mutule cornice. Double-leaf panelled outer doors. Canted windows rise from basement to 1st at right for Nos 1-10, at left for Nos 11-30 with incised parapet; tripartite architraved window at 2nd floor. Above door single-light architraved windows, consoled and corniced at 1st floor. Sash windows, mostly plate-glass glazing; some acid etched panels to lower sashes. String course at 2nd floor cills and at eaves. Bracketted cornice; axial stacks, plain flues, slate roofs. Cast-iron railings (of various patterns) to basement and steps with square cast-iron gatepiers; some modern railings at Nos 15 & 17.

Flanks: 1 Huntly Gardens/12 Saltoun Street: 4-bay elevation with single-storey and basement addition to rear. Painted ashlar, all windows architraved; at 1st floor with individual cast-iron balconies supported on cast-iron brackets. Full height canted bay to right. Tall wallhead stacks. Piended roof with brattishing. Addition to rear, with 5-light bow window.

Flank to Huntly Road; 3-bay with 2-storey bow-ended addition to rear, with details similar to main elevation. No 3 tripartite door with pilaster jambs and glazed sidelights. No 11 acid-etched glass and good art nouveau door. Pair of squat square ashlar gatepiers to carriageway

supporting cast-iron lamp brackets.
