Description

David Barclay of H & D Barclay, architect; 1900-01. Terrace
of 2-bay houses, No 8, 3-bay. 2 storeys, attic and basement.
Polished red ashlar, stugged at basement. To left, steps
oversailing basement to double-leaf panelled door with oculus
fanlight and glazed sidelights, set in tripartite doorpieces
with polished granite dwarf pilasters and colonnettes
supporting heavy cornice arching over oculus, with bold
keystone. To right (and left at No 8) 5-light bow window
rises from basement to 3-light bow dormer with conical slate
roof. Bipartite window above doorpiece. Sash windows plate
glass glazing. Most upper sashes with decorative leaded
panes. Band course at eaves. Timber brackets support widely
overhanging eaves. Alternately bow or bipartite dormers.
Pitched and platformed slate roofs. Ceramic cresting and
skews. Corniced axial stacks.
Solid ashlar parapet to steps, low ashlar boundary wall to
gardens. Stugged ashlar rear elevation
