J T Rochead, architect; 1849. Classical astylar terrace of 20 3-bay houses. Shallow advanced, 6-bay central and terminal pavilions arranged 6-21-6-21-6, 2 storeys, attics and basement; 3-storey pavilions. Polished ashlar, partly painted or stonecleaned. Steps oversailing basement to architraved consoled and corniced doorway (paired at pavilions but with individual flights of steps) doors with pilastered reveals and fanlights. Ground floor windows roll moulded, 1st floor architraved and aproned (at pavilions with consoled cornices, segmental pediments at centre 2 bays) 3rd floor pavilion windows architraved. Sash windows, plate glass or 4-pane glazing. Band course at 1st floor; string course over 2nd floor, modillion cornice, piended dormers.
Pavilions: continuous cast-iron balconies supported on cast-iron brackets; string course at eaves, bracketted cornice. Axial stacks, some octagonal flues. Good cast-iron railings to steps and basement. Polished ashlar flanks; 3 bays each. 1st bay treated as main facade, otherwise with small irregularly placed windows. Droved ashlar rear.
No 6, circa 1900 door; No. 19, carved oak front door.
No 17, fine mahogany panelling ground floor.
