Circa 1891-3. Astylar terraced crescent built on sloping
site; 2 storeys, attic and basement. Bays arranged
4-12-6-10-4; 2-bay houses with 6-bay central and 4-bay
terminal 3-storey pavilions. Polished red sandstone, stugged
at basement.
Main terrace steps oversailing basement to wide double-leaf
panelled doors with glazed fanlight. Single-light window
above door. Full-height 5-light bow window rises from
basement, corniced over ground, to 3-light bowed dormer. Sash
or casement windows, upper pane often with leaded/coloured
glass. Band course at 1st floor cills, widely overhanging
eaves with wood brackets. Red tile ridge and finials to
dormers. Corniced axial stacks, octagonal cans. Bowed and
piended dormers with overhanging eaves. Skews at party wall.
Central pavilion (Nos 8 and 9) 6-bay, 3-storey.
Terminal bays with full-height bow windows; doorpieces
detailed as above; all windows single-light. String courses
at 1st and 2nd floor cills; bracketted cornice. 4-bay
terminal pavilions full-height bow window to end bay; heavy
cornice over 1st.
Polished ashlar flanks to E and W. Rear elevation stugged red
ashlar. Mainly bipartite windows. Each house with projecting
single storey and basement addition to rear, slate roofs.
Low square ashlar gatepiers and intermediate piers linked by
cast-iron railings. Low ashlar wall to carriageway.
