Thomson, Sandilands and Macleod, 1934-37. 7-storey warehouse. Red ashlar cladding to reinforced A-framed construction. Ashlar at ground with polished granite to Glassford Street. Cill course dividing ground and 1st floor. 3 bays to Glassford Street, 5 to Wilson Street. Giant Ionic pilasters dividing bays between 1st and 5th floors, supporting freize and cornice, with plain flat-roofed 6th floor as full attic, above. Painted metal bands define floor levels between cills and lintels with Red Indian-like decoration; fluted necks to columns and bands between 6th floor windows. Metal framed, casement windows.
Adjoined to earlier warehouse, reinstated by Thomson and Sandilands after fire damage in 1927, itself now demolished. 1934 work commissioned by Glen and Davidson Ltd. Listed category B as relatively intact and typical example of 1930s design, by pre-eminent Glasgow architects of these years. Formerly numbered as No 41 Glassford Street. Glassford Court is a residential conversion occupying the upper floors of the original 1934 warehouse and its modern addition to the South. The residential element is entered through No 83 Wilson Street.
