Description

Circa 1870. 4 storeys and attic, 15 bays (3-4-1-4-3)
Argyle Street, 18 bays (1-2-1-11-3) York Street. Yellow
ashlar, modern ground floor except 8 S bays York Street
which are symmetrically pilastered. Cornice over ground
floor. 1st floor windows with shell heads and consoled
cornices to 3 outer and centre bays Argyle Street, outer
windows of 4 N, and 3 S bays York Street; similar
windows in 2nd floor with segmental pediments (excluding
3 S bays York Street). Centre Argyle Street bay, 1st
floor window with roundels in spandrel, consoled
segmental pediment to 2nd, balcony to 3rd. All other
windows in architraves, consoled cornices to 1st, cill
course to 2nd and 3rd. Modillion cornice, mansards over
outer and angle bays (synthetic slate hung), with
elaborately pilastered consoled and pedimented dormers;
segmental headed dormers in lower main mansard roof.
Doorpiece on York Street with Ionic pilasters and
balustraded parapet.
