James Chalmers, 1897. Glasgow-style, 3-storey and attic
brick brush factory with ashlar details.
Copland Road elevation. Low segmental arched entrance
in Gibbs surround in square, 4-storey tower, apparently
unfinished 6-bay section to S has 2 pilasters from
1st floor with unusual scrolled piers above eaves behind
smaller ashlar pilasters. Steep gable encloses 3 windows
with ashlar cill course, under oval oculus.
N elevation: stepped circular spiral stair with lead ogee
roof and ball finial in angle of tower. Tall lift shaft cuts
eaves, later heightened. 5 bays to W with end bay under
gable. W elevation similar. Small circular section
chimney at SW corner. S elevation 6-bay, with E bay
under steep gable with blocked ground floor canted bay
window. Mansard roof with skylights, originally slate,
now corrugated.
Original glazing pattern for all windows except some
blocked at rear.
