Description

Fire Station on corner Springburn Road/Keppochill Road; 2 blocks in L-Plan, practice tower to rear.

CORNER BLOCK (Block B): A B McDonald, Office of Public Works, 1892-93; ashlar; 4 storeys; 4 bays to Springburn Road, classical details, 2-bay shallow advanced and pedimented centre with bipartites, Glasgow crest in tympanum; 4 engine bays at painted ground floor (1 part-glazed) divided by pilasters; low wing to left; sashes with 4-pane/plate glass glazing; end stacks; slate roofs.

BLOCK FRONTING KEPPOCHILL ROAD(Block A): by T Somers, City Architect, after 1938; red brick, piended (slated), 4 storeys, 5 (2+2+2) bays, wall-head stacks over blank strips of walling, end stacks also; TOWER perhaps contemporary with original block; tall, square, yellow brick, openings at upper levels.

Opened 22 August 1893. Fire Station now converted to housing.
