Description

MacWhannel and Rogerson, 1895-99. 3-storey board school with restrained Art Nouveau ornament. Red ashlar, Symmetrical T-plan (N) front to Alexandra Parade with roof parapets (low modern additions at front and at sides), inscriptions at gabled centre; unusual disposition of windows - in outer ranges, 3 window at ground, 2 above, one at top floor; in triple pile arrangement (near symmetrical on plan), the rear ranges longer, with entrances, stacks and stair windows on flank elevations on centre gables.

Glazing mostly original sashes, several different glazing patterns. Slated roofs with ventilators. Single storey and attic janitor's lodge to NW is part of overall composition; asymmetrical; modern glazing; rock-faced low playground walls with wrought-iron railings, ashlar gatepiers.
