Description

Mid 19th century. Pair of single storey, 3-bay classical shops, each closing an irregular terrace. Painted ashlar and harl with stone cills. Base course, eaves cornice and blocking course.

NO 427: S (HIGH STREET) ELEVATION: pilastrade with 3 windows.

E ELEVATION: blocked cart arch to right of centre and door with flanking windows to left.

NO 431: S (HIGH STREET) ELEVATION: No 431: part-glazed door (converted from window) to left of centre, windows to centre and right bays, dividing pilasters and further pilaster to outer left.

W ELEVATION: 2 windows.

Plate glass glazing in fixed display windows. Red tiled pyramidal roof to No 431. Cast-iron downpipes with decorative rainwater hoppers.

Statement of Interest

Although somewhat spoiled, an interesting pair of former offices/ carriage house pavilions flanking entrance to Harbour House, No 429 High Street (listed separately, category B).
