J Sandyford Kay of Glasgow, architect. Erected 1912. Tall
pencil tower, with slight batter. Snecked rough whinstone,
with ashlar doorway, window dressings and conical slate
roof; decorative round-headed door above ground level,
splayed jambs with figure on each and crucifix above. Arch
flanked by plain ashlar blocks. Beaked grotesque beasts
flank base of door. Square ashlar plaque over door inscribed
"Memorial - Battle of Largs 1263". Cobbled walkway round
base.
Based on the round towers of Brechin and Abernethy. The
doorway is an exact copy of that at Brechin.
