Early 19th century, altered late 19th century when attic storey added. Single storey and attic 3-bay end of terrace cottage with single storey outbuilding (possibly former cottage) attached to W. Whinstone rubble (outbuilding is harled).
S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: entrance with ashlar architrave with flat consoled hood to right of centre; panelled timber door with rectangular fanlight; cast iron footscraper to left. Flanking windows (that to left may have originally been entrance to separate cottage) with gabled slated dormers above. Single storey outbuilding adjoins to left; entrance to right.
E ELEVATION: adjoins No 3 the Row.
4-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof. Pair of flanking ridge stacks with band courses; that to W is harled; that to E is of rubble with band course and round cans (and is situtated above projecting inglenook of adjacent cottage).
INTERIOR: not inspected (1998).
B Group with adjoining cottages, No 3 and No 7 The Row (see separate list descriptions) as a traditional early burgh terrace. Its later upper storey appears to be partly built on top of the remains of an early inglenook fireplace in No 3 (Category B). Prior to 1823 The Row formed part of a road which led to Thirlestane Castle and across to Norton.
