Description

GATEPIERS Mid 19th century Jacobean, painted ashlar with
advanced base course, panelled with chamfered angles, small
cornice with blocking course, topped by panelled obelisks
with ball finials. Pedestrian gate on right with raised
margins, surmounted by Dutch gablet.
LODGE - early 19th century single storey, built into high,
rubble garden wall, 2 windows open on to street. Piended
slate roof, harled walls with raised window margins.
6 pane sash windows. Low chimney stack at centre of ridge
from which rises remaining concave sided octagonal,
Jacobean chimney shaft. Return elevation, sandstone rubble
with 1 bipartite window.
HOUSE - circa 1835/40, large elaborately detailed neo-
Jacobean polished ashlar villa. South elevation 2-storey
near symmetrical composition, 5 bays wide. Advanced
slightly off centre gabled entrance bay, projecting
doorpiece with cornice and Jacobean stonework pediment,
stepped string course above and ornate Dutch gable with
concave sided octagonal chimney shaft at apex, scrolled
skew ends. Steps to door flanked by ball finials. 2
architraved and corniced windows each side ground and 1st
floors unevenly spaced, those at 1st floor with pedimented
gablets. Return gable has one step, skews with scrolled
ends and fleurs de lis finial, projecting tripartite
windows ground and 1st floors with strapwork on 1st floor
apron and pierced parapet above cornice, single attic
window above with strap work head. Slightly lower wing to
rear with 1 window ground and 1st floor as on entrance
front. Lower matching 2-storey 2 bay link to wing added by
Lorimer in 1904, which is part 2 storeys with attics and
partly 3 storeys at right angles with gable to front.
Total front 7 windows wide, unevenly spaced, of which 2 on
each floor of gable end. Large square bay window with
cornice and parapet in centre of 2 storey section, which
has 3 piended square dormers. All windows architraved
and single pane sash. Both sections ashlar with ridge
slate roofs.
