1796. 2-storey and attic 3-bay house on ground falling to S, entered from street at 1st floor. Harled.
N (BIGGIESKNOWE) ELEVATION: blank, largely below street level. At centre, flagstone platform bridge oversailing area to projecting gabled entrance bay with droved ashlar quoin strips and margins; panelled door. Below, at ground, door at centre and small window to left.
W ELEVATION: gable with window to right at 1st floor.
S (RIVER) ELEVATION: regular fenestration; glazed door at centre; pair of segmental-headed box dormers half set into roof.
Timber sash and case 12-pane windows. Grey slates; rendered apex stacks.
BOUNDARY WALL, STEPS AND RAILINGS: boundary/retaining rubble wall to street with saddleback ashlar coping; steps to right to lower level. Arrowhead cast-iron railings.
The birthplace of William (6th April 1800) and Robert (10th July 1802) Chambers; the house was built by their father James, a weaver.
