18th century, altered to rear. 2-storey, 7-bay, rectangular-plan, short terrace of houses on ground falling steeply to NE. Harled with painted margins and snecked rubble to side.
W (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: part-glazed boarded timber door in bay to left of centre, windows to left at ground and 3 regularly-disposed windows above, further window beyond to right at ground; steps up to further part-glazed timber door in bay to right of centre, 2 windows beyond to right and single dormer rising from below eaves at approximate centre above. All windows small except dormer.
N ELEVATION: blank gabled elevation.
E (REAR) ELEVATION: altered elevation with out-of-character box dormer window.
Plate glass glazing in timber sash and case windows. Grey slates. Coped ashlar stacks with some cans; ashlar-coped skews with block skewputts.
Castle Street was formerly the main road out of Stonehaven leading to Dunnottar Castle. The few remaining houses lining the east side (all those to the west have been demolished) of what would have been a major thoroughfare are rare survivors of a once prolific type.
