Description

Mid 19th century with later alterations. 2-storey with attic, 5-bay (7-bay at ground) rectangular-plan asymmetrical house incorporating 3-bay shop to right forming terrace with fenestrated chamfered bay to outer right. Painted cement-rendered and lined at ground; harl-pointed roughly course rubble at 1st floor with cement margins to windows; harled to S. Band course between ground and 1st floor.

E (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: bays grouped 4-3 at ground. 4-bay group to left: 2 deep-set timber doors with fanlights in bays to right of centre. Window in each bay to left. 3-bay shop group to right: modern part-glazed timber door in bay to centre. Window in each bay flanking. Irregularly fenestrated at 1st floor. gabletted dormer, breaking eaves in bay to outer left. Small attic window in chamfered bay to outer right.

S (SIDE) ELEVATION: single bay gabled elevation with attic window to gablehead.

Predominantly 12-pane timber sash and case windows; picture windows to shop; fixed small-pane timber-framed windows at ground to left. Grey slate; red clay ridge; slate to dormer; harled coped common stack to N; uPVC rainwater goods.

Statement of Interest

Number 17 is recorded as having been a Bar from 1900-1920, an Electricians in 1947, then later, a Dressmaker's, a Stationer's and then a Boot's store in 1964 and is now a Coffee Shop. Number 19A served as a Grocer's around 1900 and is now a dwelling, as is number 19.
