Description

Macbey and Gordon, Engineers, Elgin, 1887 4 arch bridge with
long SE approach causeway with small arch spanning mill lade.
All coursed rubble with tooled ashlar dressings. 4 keystoned
segmental headed ashlar arch rings; triangular cutwaters
rising as canted buttresses terminating in facetted
caps incorporated in tooled ashlar coped balustrade;
string course. 4 pairs cast-iron lamp standards mounted
on alternate buttress caps.

Statement of Interest

Plaque on parapets records that the bridge was opened on 3rd

May 1887 by Rt Hon Earl of Caithness. Also records names of

engineers. This bridge cost $4,000 and replaced that of

circa 1800 (Robert Tulloch, Master Mason).
