SOUTH PIER LIGHTHOUSE: built circa 1905, at the South Pier. Squat tapering octagonal mass concrete tower swelling out at top to form platform. Octagonal iron lantern on concrete plinth, tubular steel handrail. Lantern has low-pitch pyramidal roof. Ground floor linked to contemporary mass-concrerte breakwater, with rail-less steps to breakwater top. Door to lighthouse set into arched recess in ground floor of tower. Small inset windows at first floor on landward side. Small store under steps to breakwater.
NORTH PIER LIGHTHOUSE: on North Pier. Later 19th century hexagonal, 6 cast-iron tubular legs, each in 4 sections, with wrought-iron bracing towards top. Ladder access to bracketted gallery with tubular steel railing. Hexagonal wooden lantern with pyramidal roof and elaborate ventilator. Disused in 1991.
South Pier extended 200' under a Provisional Order of 1903, at an estimated cost of ?150,000. Information from Wick Harbour Trust.
