Description

Post 1865. 2-storey, 3-bay, rectangular-plan gabled villa with Tudoresque details. Ashlar fronted with ashlar margins and dressings, whinstone rubble gables and rear. Base course; quoin strips; projecting eaves, exposed rafters. Basket-arched windows at ground.

W (MAIN) ELEVATION: gable to outer right slightly advanced, full-height canted bay, pierced decorative trefoil band between floors, slate roof. Tudor-arched door with stepped hoodmould, panelled door with plate glass fanlight; half-glazed door. Tripartite window slightly advanced to left with shallow balcony, similarly pierced but overpainted; gabled dormerhead with tudor-arched window breaking eaves.

Plate glass timber sash and case windows, 12-pane timber sash and case windows on gables; grey slate roof, lead flashings, corniced ridge stacks, octagonal cans.

INTERIOR: plain cornices, cast-iron barley-sugar balustered stair; elaborate marble fireplace in sitting room, originally from Hartfield House (now demolished).

BOUNDARY WALL AND GATEPIERS: whinstone wall with harl pointing, quartz coping. Gatepiers with chamfered arrises, pyramidal caps.
