Description

Circa 1870. Symmetrical lodge house, single storey, 3-bay, squared and snecked sandstone rubble with margins stugged, droved and chamfered.

Projecting eaves with block corbel. Small gabled porch to front (S) elevation, with 2-leaf boarded door, flanked by 2 windows. 2 windows to both E and W elevations, lean-to stone sheds to rear (N). Windows timber sash and case, 12-pane. Roof piended, light-grey slate. Central brick stack with brick ornament to projecting cope, 2 plain cans.

GATEWAY: quadrant screen wall in random sandstone rubble with rounded cope, connecting 2 sets of gatepiers, ashlar with pyramidal cap.

Statement of Interest

The current arrangement replaced an earlier pair of gate lodges, shown on the OS Map of 1854.
