Description

Late 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay end of terrace public building. Free Style with Dutch and Queen Anne details. Squared and snecked sandstone with tooled finish, smooth dressings. Base course, cornice above ground floor, eaves cornice. Rubble to side.

NE (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: large central doorway in bold, round-arched, channelled doorpiece, semicircular fanlight with small square stained glass lights. Doorpiece surmounted by broken swan-neck pediment clasping broken pedimented tablet with ball finial. Bay to right with bipartite window in plain opening at ground floor, tall columnar mullioned Venetian window with balustraded apron at 1st floor (lighting large hall), set in large curvilinear gablehead with panelled frieze and ball finial to segmental pediment.

SE ELEVATION: gable end with later flat-roofed addition to left at ground, window to left at 1st floor. Wing to left, advanced, rubble windows with ashlar margins. Later flat-roofed additions obscuring elevation.

Timber sash and case windows with individual glazing pattern to E front. Grey slate, coped skews, ashlar gablehead stacks.
