Description

1903. Single storey with attic, 3-bay, asymmetrical L-plan house with longer wing to right. Whitewashed harl; red sandstone ashlar dressings. Cill course; advanced chamfered base course; overhanging bracketed timber eaves; projecting cills; long and short surrounds to openings.

W (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: roll-moulded central doorway; panelled timber door; 12-pane fanlight; plaque to right; single light catslide dormer. 2-light window at ground in advanced bay to left; 2 light gabled dormer. 3 light canted bay window at ground to right; 2 light box dormer.

S (GORDON ROAD) ELEVATION: 5-bay. Advanced 3-bays to left comprising central gabled bay; transomed and mullioned stained glass stair window set within; single windows flanking at ground. Box dormer facing E. Recessed bay to right comprising single window to outer left; advanced timber porch to left; replacement 2-leaf door; single casement window to outer right.

Predominantly timber sash and case windows with 6-, 9- and 12-pane glazing to upper sashes at ground; 9-pane to upper sashes in dormers. Red tiled piended roofs. Corniced gablehead and battered wallhead stacks; circular cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1997.

BOUNDARY WALLS, POSTBOX, AND OUTHOUSE: low coped boundary wall to Gordon Road elevation; stepped up to higher squared and snecked rubble wall to E; postbox within wall. Stepped low coped boundary wall and fencing with pedestrian and vehicular entrances to Clermison Road elevation. Painted timber outhouse to E; piended roof.

Statement of Interest

Notable for its stained glass, broad eaves and prominent chimney stacks.
