Description

Mid to later 19th century. Asymmetrical, 2-storey, 3-bay gabled villa; slightly advanced to outer right. Whitewashed harl; painted margins. Raised plinth; corniced canted window at ground; overhanging timber bracketed eaves. Narrow strip quoins; stop-chamfered reveals to openings (square-headed, shouldered and round-arched); stop-chamfered sandstone mullions; corbelled cills (architraved at 1st floor); gabled, columnar porch.

NW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: steps to gabled porch centred at ground comprising bell-capital columns, timber brackets, stop-chamfered timber detailing beneath apex (stylised king-post). 2-leaf timber panelled door recessed within; round-arched, plate-glass fanlight. Shouldered-arched, bipartite window at ground in bay to outer left; round-arched, gabled window breaking eaves at 1st floor. 3-light canted window in advanced bay to outer right; round-arched, bipartite window centred in 1st floor apex.

NE (SIDE) ELEVATION: single windows at ground in bays to outer left and right; single window at 1st floor off-set to left of centre. Lean-to addition recessed to outer left comprising timber door in bay to right, narrow window off-set to left, single windows in both bays at 1st floor.

2-pane timber sash and case windows. Replacement roof tiles; some original rainwater goods. Coped, sandstone ridge and apex stacks; octagonal cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1996.

BOUNDARY WALL AND GATEPIERS: rubble-coped, part-harled wall enclosing site; painted, coursed octagonal-plan gatepiers flanking entrance; corniced, octagonal caps; gates missing.

Statement of Interest

With its timber sash and case glazing, columnar porch, shouldered- and round-arched openings and timber panelled door, this gabled villa has retained a significant degree of architectural interest. A roofless, random rubble outbuilding is situated to the rear, whilst the S gatepier is fractured. The Ordnance Survey map refers to the house as "Teighard".
